3A Sample Letter to Parents
Dear Parents,
You may be aware that single use plastics are an environmental nightmare. They are not good for our health, or for CO2 emissions or for the planet. Plastics present huge difficulties in disposal and recycling. Our goal is to reduce plastic use to the lowest levels possible (ideally plastic-free).
As you already know, our school is currently working hard to reduce single-use plastic consumption on campus. Some of the planned changes may need preparation by you for your children, for which we need your help.
Therefore, we are proposing a Plastic Free Campus Kit for students to take to school with them daily, consisting of:
· A reusable water bottle – these will also be sold on campus.
· Reusable cutlery (if not provided by the school)
· Reusable container or reusable sandwich bag
· Students bring home the waste they have brought into school #takeitback
We are holding a plastic-free living workshop to give tips and advice on how to decrease plastic consumption within households. This workshop will be held at [enter time and date of workshop]. [Guidance for this workshop can be found in Module 3.2: Running a Plastic-Free Living Workshop] We hope to see as many of you there as possible!
For those of you who would like to address plastic waste further in your own homes, here is a template for a home waste management study to spark discussions in your household about where our waste is going and what we can do to make a difference. [Attachment found in Module 3.3 – Home Waste Management Study]. This study will help give you a good understanding of the waste you produce in your own home, and hopefully inspires you to take part in our Plastic Free Campus challenges. These challenges are a fun way to help you reduce household plastic waste. [List of challenges in Module 3.4: Household Challenges]
